about carlight
Carlight was founded by Robert Earl, a Sleaford Auctioneer.
Large-scale production started in the 1930s with a lightweight model of streamlined design. During the Second World War, production concentrated on caravans suitable for residential use and bespoke hospital trailers.
In the post-war years, the firm repidly moved into the luxury end of the market, earning a reputation for producing the "Rolls Royce" of caravans which has continued to this day.
Bob Earl and his wife, Anne, were keen caravanners themselves, competing regularly in international rallys and trials. The business remained in the hands of the same family until 2011 when it was purchased by Classic Caravans (now Carlight Caravans) at North Rauceby, near Sleaford in Lincolnshire.
The Carlight Heritage Collection of historic Carlights is maintained by the family of Robert and Anne Earl who continue to produce classic Carlight regalia and equipment through J. Hodgson & Sons Ltd. |
